International Baby Wearing Week
I LOVE baby wearing! I enjoyed having both of my children held close in slings. My personal favourites were a wrap and ring-sling that I made and a gorgeous pouch style sling that I was lucky enough to be given by my friend Sarah who is the designer and owner of Unido Baby Slings. The children enjoyed being safe and close and hte loved all the attention and fussing they got from every adult we passed. Its so easy to ignore a baby in a buggy but when the baby is at shoulder height everyone engages with them. It was also a lot easier for me to chat inanely away to them about what was going in the trolley etc. This week on our FaceBook page we're giving away 3 sets of rings to make your own ring sling. They're super easy and there are dozens of online tutorials. You need a basic sewing machine, woven fabric and the ability to straight stitch. The benefit of doing it yourself is that you can use any design of fabric you wish and can even embellish it to suit your personal style. Head over to our Facebook page to enter... Multiple Birth Week Hats off to all those parents of twins and triplets! Two hands and one baby can be overwhelming enough! We have had several sets of twins using Nudey!Rudey! nappies and I especially love it when they send pictures of the babies in their matching nappies- too cute! And proof that cloth isn't nesessarily more work. One mother of twins commented on our Facebook pagewww.facebook.com/worldsbestnappies "...On the odd occasion we've had to use disposable (don't have a dryer) the bin is full in the blink of an eye and you realise how much landfill you're saving..." We're just back from a successful and fun filled weekend at the Parent & Child Show in Auckland. I was amazed at how many products are available now that weren't just 6 years ago when I first starting looking. While its great to have choices I did speak to many confused parents-to-be about what they really need for their first baby. People you don't expect gifts from are often very generous as they remember how it felt to be in your shoes. I really enjoyed speaking to potential customers, and on a personal note, I was thrilled to see owners of companies I love working their stands. Made4Baby, Brollysheets, Seedlings, Lola & Ben, Unido, all had their creators working the till, supporting their staff and meeting their customers which I think speaks volumes about how they view and value their customers and staff. Ooh! And I spotted a few parent celebs too!
